Samsung Galaxy A30s is the next smartphone Samsung has to offer in the Galaxy A lineup. As the name suggests, Galaxy A30s is the slightly upgraded version of the Samsung Galaxy A30 which launched way back in March. But is it really an upgrade over the A30? Well, as a whole it seems an upgrade except that one aspect and that particular one aspect can be a deal breaker for many. The Samsung Galaxy A30 was more or less a hit device, atleast in the offline market and yes it did got a price cut. So, is the Galaxy A30s really an upgrade over the Galaxy A30? Lets find out:
Samsung Galaxy A30s is made keeping in the average user in mind. Therefore it doesn’t have many extra ordinary features as some of the other phones in this price range.

Display
The Samsung Galaxy A30s has a 6.4 inch Super AMOLED display that is of HD+ resolution that translates to an amazing pixel density of 403 PPI. Yes, it does have a notch but surprisingly it’s an infinity-V notch as opposed to previous Galaxy A series phone having a infinity-U notch. Samsung Galaxy A30s has surely the one of the best display in this price range. Speaking of display, the Galaxy A30s has in-display fingerprint sensor this time.
Camera
In terms of photography and video shooting, the Galaxy A30s comes with a triple lens camera setup with 25MP being the main sensor. Other two lenses are 8MP Wide angle camera and 5MP depth sensor which promises crisp and clear images. On the front it as 16MP shooter.
Performance on the Galaxy A30s
Samsung hasn’t improved the performance much in the Galaxy A50s as it is having the same Exynos 9604 SoC which it used in vast range of Galaxy M and Galaxy A series devices even in the predecessor i.e. Galaxy A30 same chipset was used. This SoC is good enough for daily use and gets the job done. The moment some heavy game is thrown at it, it would not give the best experience. Also Exynos 9604 is nowhere near Snapdragon counterparts like Snapdragon 710/712 as their GPUs are powerful then the Mali G1 GPU present in the Galaxy A30s. This SoC scores around 1,10,000 – 1,20,000 so ya, its just does the simple work and not intense tasks.
Battery
The Galaxy A30s has a 4000mAh battery which is also unchanged. Samsung’s optimisation is pretty good and this capacity of battery will last 1.5 days for an average user. Personally, we feel that Galaxy A30 did pretty decent job in terms of battery backup.
Software and UI
Samsung phones have been using the OneUI skin since the starting of this year. Same goes for Galaxy A30s. But here’s a twist, all existing OneUI phones are running OneUI v1.1 but Galaxy A30s is the first phone in this range running OneUI v1.5 which is the same as Galaxy Note10 series. Eventually this version will trickle down to every OneUI phone. Galaxy A30s will receive 2 major Android updates meaning it’ll get Android 10 and 11 which is a very great thing in this price range. OneUI 1.5 brings steady video recording and Night mode on board.
The software on this mid-range Samsung phones is very bloaty in our experience. Initially, when setting up the phone, it’ll prompt to install Samsung’s own apps which Google has already been providing on the Play Store and moreover it even prompts to install 3rd party apps. Another irritating part is that after every security patch update, there would be a new third party app installed through the small OTA update. Though this can be uninstalled but why provide it in the first place when user can download it from Play Store itself. Well, Samsung is brand which will gain revenue from here and there no matter what, thus passing it on to the users.
Why wait for the Galaxy A30s price to fall?
The Galaxy A30s is a decent phone but not extra ordinary or unique feature being provided at this price range. The major con that disapoints us is the inclusion of only HD+ panel which is a downgrade from Galaxy A30 which had a 1080p panel. This phone is priced at Rs. 16,999 for the 64GB ROM variant & at that price a HD display doesn’t seems a good deal. Let alone this, Mi A3 also has a HD display at Rs. 14,000 and people are disappointed at that only. To give a brief, is all in all a downgrade from Galaxy A30.
This is because only two major changes have been done.
- A triple camera setup upgraded from dual camera setup
- In-display fingerprint sensor add, previously physical fingerprint sensor
The cameras are the only spec which seems to be upgraded. Addition of telephoto lens is good also the new 25MP main sensor as opposed to 16MP is an improvement.
The in-display sensor will definitely be slower then the physical sensor on the Galaxy A30 as it’s a mid-range so can’t expect flagship level speeds. Its just that it’s a new trend in technology and Samsung has implemented the same in lower price.
Why pay Rs. 16,999 for the Galaxy A30s when even Mi A3 is priced much lower with a HD display? Well, this is an online as well as offline phone so much Samsung will definitely charge a premuim for it. But Samsung phones tend to fall in price in couple of months and same has been seen with Galaxy A30 and Galaxy A50 but for Rs, 15,000 the predecessor Galaxy A30 seems a better deal or even better!
