OnePlus 8 Pro: The flagship phone you should buy but after sometime

OnePlus announced the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro globally on April 14, 2020. I was more interested in the latter as it’s the real deal this year. The regular OnePlus 8 is good but nothing impressive then the already popular OnePlus 7T. On the other hand, OnePlus 8 Pro is the brand’s full fledged flagship as it marks all the boxes which a flagship should have.

But as the title reads, you should make a deal on the OnePlus 8 Pro only after sometime as it is currently flawed with issues pertaining to the display. Many users over Reddit have complained about this issue several times now. This shows that OnePlus have not set their quality control standards up-to the mark for atleast this specific device i.e. OnePlus 8 Pro. While announcing the phone live they also mentioned that it has the best display ever in a smartphone but what didn’t expect that the displays will be plagued with issues atleast on the first few batches.

The display specs are the best it can ever be also with that 120Hz refresh rate even on maxed out resolution i.e. 2K.

Display issues on the OnePlus 8 Pro

  1. Green tint issue – This issue is common with AMOLED displays but on the OnePlus 8 Pro it’s just next level. The tint issue is visible at minimum brithness on a greyish background. ROG Phone 2 users also faced a similar issue but the tint on ROG Phone 2 was red and wasn’t that much visible as in the case of OnePlus 8 Pro

  1. Screen burn-in – This is a nightmare issue for AMOLED displays. Screen burn-in is the permanent retention of the UI elements on the panel itself like app icons, status bar icons and even the whole keyboard. This issue can’t be fixed until the display is replaced. Guess what? OnePlus 8 Pro users have came over this issue in the first day itself. This issue may not occur until you use the phone on maxed brightness that too for several months. In the case of OnePlus 8 Pro its just merely days. Users are complaining screen burn of the status bar in which there’s discoloration on the top of the display where the status bar settles.

  1. Edge bleeding – Some OnePlus 8 Pro users are facing green discoloration on the edges due to a curved display. Hauwei Mate 20 Pro was also plagued with the same issue initially.

Verdict

OnePlus has released various software updates claiming that the issues will be fixed via the OTA updates. But that certainly doesn’t happen as how a hardware defect can be fixed by software. All in all, OnePlus 8 Pro currently has various defects and you are only lucky if you purchased it and didn’t face any of the display issues. The first few batches might have these issues. Various devices before have gone through the similar issues like the ROG Phone 2 and Huawei Mate 20 Pro with their OLED displays. It’s just a matter of time that OnePlus will come up with an official statement regarding the same. Till then, I would suggest not to buy the OnePlus 8 Pro till the issues are resolved and complaints on a daily basis are put to an end.
