OnePlus has come a long way since the OnePlus One. From representing it itself as a flagship killer to being a flagship phone brand. The overall journey has been quiet successful for them as at the end of the day sales is what matters and OnePlus has excelled in that.
Long ago OnePlus took a chance and tried the lower price segment in smartphones and launched a phone knows as OnePlus X. The OnePlus Nord is just an iteration of the same but with a different approach. If you notice, the OnePlus X had far superior materials then the Nord like a titanium frame. So what does is the all hype about the Nord?
OnePlus ran huge campaigns prior to the launch of OnePlus Nord. But that is not where all the hype started. Back in February, famous leakster revealed that OnePlus might launch a ‘Lite’ version of the OnePlus 8 series. Since then there has been talks within the tech scene about this more budget friendly approach OnePlus phone. The first ever leak suggested it will have flagship Mediatek SoC but further down the road it was confirmed to be equipped with SD765G. Thus, you can say this phone was in Nord for almost half year of 2020 and many anticipated its launch along with the OnePlus 8 series but as you all know, that didn’t happen.
Fast forward to the announcement date, it was finally announced – The OnePlus Nord. At this price point brands have to choose the compents as to keep the costs low and majorly don’t innovate much at this price point. That’s what exactly OnePlus did. First of I have complaint that the base variant of ₹24,999 has just a measely 64GB ROM, which is honestly not that great at this price. In my opinion, the 128GB ROM variant is the real deal here. But again that’s OnePlus’s mastermind strategy, to make users buy the ₹27,999 variant and also the 64GB variant would be available in September and by that time OnePlus would have filled pockets with the higher variants alone and when the 64GB arrives that’ll be more cherry on top for OnePlus. I know that it has 5G and thus a price tag but if it could have been a little lower then better.
Also all the hype revolved on one statement – “OnePlus going back to its root and launching a cheaper phone considering its phones reaching above the ₹40,000 mark”. It’s like Apple launching a budget phone, then imagine how many people would be looking forward to it. OnePlus knows that in India they have a brand image just after Apple and Samsung and so why not use that advantage in terms of sales. Over the years they have developed their UI i.e. Oxygen OS so well that it’s the best custom UI skin. But that depends from person to person if they find Oxygen OS mind-blowing. Personally I don’t as Asus’s UI ZenUI does pretty much the same like stock like Android with some nifty features.
No matter over-hyped or not, whatever the case maybe. The OnePlus Nord will sell like hot cakes as the craze for OnePlus phones has always been there and especially at lower prices. It will give a tough competition to brands like Realme and Redmi which do have a superior performance.
The OnePlus Nord will go on open sale on August 4th but only the 128GB and 256GB ROM variants. The 64GB RAM will be available later in September and below are the prices:-
- 6+64GB – Rs. 24,999
- 8+128GB – Rs. 27,999
- 12+256GB – Rs. 29,999
