Realme 7 Pro vs Realme 6 Pro: Was sacrificing really worth?

Realme 7 Pro vs Realme 6 Pro: Was sacrificing really worth?

Realme has come up yet again with another device (as it does every 2 weeks or so) and its the most prominent Realme lineup i.e. Realme 7 and Realme 7 Pro. The previous generation Realme 6 series was announced back in March 2020 and we are witnessing the successors to those phones in just 6 months! We will be looking into the differences between the Realme 6 Pro and Realme 7 Pro. Sacrifices were made here and there yet the Realme 7 Pro has shot up then the Realme 6 Pro. Also this time the comparison will be per point basis to see which one comes on top after all.

Design and Materials

This is pretty evident and noticeable by many when you hold both the devices, the Realme 6 Pro feels much more premium then its successor that’s because it is. It has glass panel on the back meanwhile the Realme 7 Pro has dumped the glass and gone with poly-carbonate this time. This feels odd as the touch and feel should only improve with every generation but unfortunately that’s not the case here. So, Realme 7 Pro is all plastic from top to bottom and Realme 6 Pro does have glass on the back and a plastic frame.

Display

The display has took a major change on the Realme 7 Pro as Realme has ditched the LCD display with a AMOLED one. Both display technologies have their own pros and cons and one may prefer one or the other. Realme was the first brand to implement high refresh rate screen in mid-range segment and that too at Rs. 13,000 (launch price) on the Realme 6 and the same was available on the Realme 6 Pro. With Realme 7 Pro that’s no longer in place. Only typical 60Hz screen is what you get now but that’s AMOLED now. It would have been nice to see Realme retain the 90Hz on the Realme 7 Pro as well.

As one has AMOLED meanwhile other has a smooth scrolling experience, so 1 point each will be given to both.

Performance

Both phones have literally the same processor that is Snapdragon 720G which works extremely well even after 6 months. It’s a quiet great mid-range Snapdragon chip which gives consistent performance. Nothing to rave about even if the Realme 7 Pro has no upgrade in this department. Thus, 1 point to both them

Cameras

Cameras have took a complete overhaul on the Realme 7 Pro. To be honest, i feel the camera specs were better on the Realme 6 Pro but that doesn’t matter at all if practically the latter is better. A bummer with the Realme 7 Pro is that Realme as removed the telephoto lens in place of a depth sensor. Telephoto helps in taking close up shots and these shots are more detailed but again the high res 64MP can take good close ups as well but a dedicated lens just for that purpose is also a plus point. On the front the wide-angle camera has also been removed in and a single 32MP camera remains on the Realme 7 Pro. Realme 6 Pro was probably the only phone under Rs.20,000 to have a front wide-angle camera. But this also gives the display a clean look as smaller the camera cutout, better the viewing experience.

On the other hand the Realme 7 Pro gains the 64MP Sony IMX682 sensor which is exactly like the IMX686 but without the support for 4K 60FPS video recording which is now limited to 30FPS. IMX686 is used in phones like much expensive Zenfone 7/7 Pro and LG V60, even the Poco X2 uses the same. The results can come out to be very great through this sensor.

So 2 points here for the Realme 6 Pro for the more useful telephoto lens and a wide angle selfie camera. 1 point for the Realme 7 Pro for the upgraded camera sensor

Battery

Realme 6 Pro had a 4300mAh with 30W fast charging and the Realme 7 Pro has a 4500mAh with 65W fast charging. This is a no brainer here that Realme 7 Pro will go further both i battery endurance per charge as well as charging speeds. Really appreciate Realme to bring the flagship level charging tech to mid-range phone. But again to make that happen, a lot of sacrifices were made.

With all the aspects covered the points table for Realme 7 Pro and Realme 6 Pro is as – 4 and 5 respectively. This doesn’t at all means that the Realme 6 Pro is a better device then the 7 Pro but just gives an idea of what aspects are better in the Realme 6 Pro and the Realme 7 Pro over one another. There’s not any clear winner here as numbers don’t matter but what matters most is how both of them perform practically.

Pricing

Realme 7 Pro

6+128GB – Rs. 19,999

8+128GB – Rs. 21,999

Realme 6 Pro

6+64GB – Rs. 17,999

8+128GB – Rs. 19,999

We can say that Realme has sacrificed a couple of things to be able to provide the 65W fast charging and AMOLED with the Realme 7 Pro. If it could have retained the glass design that would have been great as it’s priced at a price which is a bit premium then usual or atleast that’s just me. Rest all seems good on the Realme 7 Pro.
