Realme has been continuously trying to penetrate into the Indian market and has been very much successful in doing so. It started from selling budget and mid-range devices with Realme 1 and Realme 2 later on. Realme is now entering the premium segment with the Realme X2 Pro and this could be its biggest risk as this segment is dominated by few players only and those are the brands which have build a massive fan base already therefore it would be a challenge for Realme to attract as much people as possible even those loyal fans associated with other brands.
Realme X2 Pro is indeed a spec monster and has basically everything a Rs.60,000 and above phone would have. But as stated, the segment is dominated by players like OnePlus, Asus and Redmi and is no joke to compete in that segment unlike the Rs. 10,000 – 15,000 in which majorly the phone is judged by the SoC and adequate battery. Not considering unpopular brands here.

What you didn’t knew about the Realme X2 Pro
These are some points which you might not know about Realme X2 Pro:-
1) Android 10 update delayed big-time
Realme X2 Pro should have been launched with Android 10 itself just like the OnePlus 7T which launched a month ago. Being a flagship, this is not expected by Realme. The Android 10 update for the Realme X2 Pro will start seeding to devices from March 2020. But the bright side is that, the Android 10 update will be based on the latest iteration of Color OS i.e. ColorOS 7. On top of that, it will be close to stock Android for Realme devices as stated by the company’s CEO. Realme will yet again rely on Oppo’s custom UI this time around also no matter what will be the special treatment for Realme devices, the core UI is ColorOS only. Users will be very much disappointed if the ColorOS 7 for Realme would just be a theme.
Checkout the tweet below from CEO Madhav Seth for the same-
Realme enrolled for the Android Q Beta for its midrange device i.e. Realme 3 Pro and yet the update is delayed to 2020. Ironically, Realme 3 Pro and Realme XT will recieve Android 10 + Color OS 7 before then the highly priced Realme X2 Pro. That’s what you not come to expect from a flagship device.
2) SuperVOOC Charge
Realme X2 Pro sports ultimate charging speeds of 50W, which is definitely as stated by the brand, “India’s fastest charging phone”. You might not know that this VOOC charging technology is from Oppo which was once Realme’s parent company before Realme becoming a separate entity. Many tech of Realme is borrowed from Oppo like the OS itself i.e. ColorOS and hell they even launch same phones with different names take for example the Realme X and the Oppo K5, the difference would be that Oppo sells its smartphones mainly in the offline market and Realme pretty much online but now is taking the offline path too. Basically, we can say that Realme has the patent rights to adopt the VOOC Charge tech into its phones.
SuperVOOC was used in Oppo’s Find X with the same 50W charging speeds. Meaning this tech is already a year old now and Realme has adopted it now. What if this could be the reason that the brand isn’t charging much premium for fastest charging phone in India because the tech is already a year old? Whatever the reason maybe but the phone charges from 0-100% in around 30 mins or so which is extremely cool!
3) Strikingly similar to Oppo Reno Ace
If you checkout the comparisons side by side especially the dimensions, it is exactly similar to Oppo’s Reno Ace. Only major difference can be found in the main sensor of Oppo Reno Ace being a 48MP instead of 64MP in Realme X2 Pro and a tougher glass of Corning Glass 6 in Reno Ace. Also Reno Ace supports upto 65W of SuperVOOC charging. As stated above, Realme even borrows design language of their phones from Oppo. This results in very low R&D costs as the design and frame is completely from Oppo and they just have to make some cosmetic changes here and there. Oppo will most probably never launch the Reno Ace in India and same case with other countries where there’s Realme X2 Pro there might not be Reno Ace (except China).
The Reno Ace is priced higher then Realme X2 Pro and not aggressive as the Realme. It does have a lower resolution camera but that would not matter much as its not all about megapixels infact the 48MP has been tried and tested in various other phones that came out this year so it is indeed a great performer. Gorilla Glass 6 on the front and 65W SuperVOOC charging compensates for the megapixel count in the Reno Ace.

The custom ROM for Realme X2 Pro is also pretty good with many devs contributing their custom ROMs for the Realme X2 Pro like LineageOS, AOSiP, Mokee, Dirty Unicorns, Carbom ROM. Custom ROMs unlock the potential of the hardware with tons and tons of features especially on the customization part. The 3rd party support isn’t that great for the Realme X2 Pro as opposes to OnePlus and Redmi devices but it’s getting there. Customs ROMs also bring a whole new experience in terms of UI that is stock android with some nifty features which isn’t even present on many OEM skins. So does longing for a Realme X2 stock android then custom ROMs are the way to go. Keep in mind that rooting in order to flash custom ROMs will kill the warranty of your phone.
OxygenOS for the Realme X2 Pro would have been very great as many people aspire that particular custom OEM skin. Many phones have got a Oxygen OS port and we can expect it too sometime in the future. The custom development support is insanely good for phones which are popular and have sold many units which Realme X2 Pro might not be the one but as prices fall, people tend to purchase it despite being 1 year old as Realme X2 Pro is one of those which is an overall great phone even to this date.
The Gadgets Hub’s opinion/take on Realme X2 Pro-
The Realme X2 Pro is a spectacular device for the price. But as no phone is perfect, same goes for the X2 Pro. People might rebel the Realme X2 Pro solely because of the ColorOS UI. It needs some polishing for atleast a flagship device. Now talking about the stock Android experience which Realme has promised will be rolling out in March 2020 and till then, you are stuck with the ColorOS. On the other hand by investing more, the OnePlus 7T is also a great option which has undoubtedly one of the best custom UIs out there i.e. Oxygen OS. A trust factor is associated with Oxygen OS that it won’t give probelms over time but the same cannot be said for ColorOS.
All in all it’s a great device but only the UI would be holding back many people from purchasing it.
