Recently Samsung has been on a rampage with its A series devices like the Galaxy A20, A30, A40, A50 and also leaks of A70 are floating around the Internet. The company has also officially stated that its killing of the J series of smartphones and the A and M series will take its place in the budget and mid-range segment. The leaks were of Galaxy A80 too, which Samsung finally pulls of the wraps. Its comes with some latest innovations. Galaxy A80 price in India will play a major role in its selling.
Galaxy A80 Overview
To begin off the things the Gakaxy A80 has humongous 6.7″ 1080p Super AMOLED Display. The phone is in a glass sandwich design with metal frame. It comes with the latest processor Snapdragon 730 which was literally just announced a day before the sliding camera phone launch. Memory Configurations are 128GB ROM and 8GB RAM with no SD card expansion. Considering the screen size of the phone the battery seems average atleast on paper i.e. 3700mAh though software optimisations matter the most.
The star of the show in Galaxy A80 is the sliding + flip camera mechansim. Recall the Oppo N1 from way back in 2013? It has that mechanism instead the rotation of the camera is accompanied by sliding mechanism like in recent phones like Mi Mix 3 and Honor Magic 2. It consists of 48MP f/2.0 main sensor along with 8MP f/2.2 ultra wide sensor and last but not the least, a ToF 3D camera which helps in 3D mapping of the object into the camera. Unlike the Mi Mix 3, the cameras do not have to be opened and closed manualy. When you hit the selfie button in the camera app, it would automatically slide up and rotate the camera until its facing you.
It runs on Samsung’s latest UI i.e. One UI which comes on top of Android 9 Pie and has all the nifty feature that the UI has to offer. The Galaxy A80 worldwide premiere is happening on May 29
The Gadgets Hub’s opinion/take on this:
Galaxy A80 is packed with some latest and greatest innovations like the all now sliding mechanic which no one has ever shown yet and the latest Snapdragon 730 SoC. The main point is…are we ready for sliding phones again? with now phones becoming huge as opposed to tiny sliding phones way back then. Sliding phones are not everyone’s cup of tea. Many still prefer just a slab of piece of phone with no motorised tech and all. Imagine dust and lint getting accumulated between the rotation parts of the phone!! .With front camera moved to the back (when phone is in rear camera mode) the bezels are very minute and just like the iPhone X/XS. On the first glance it may even be seen that the top bezel is even thinner then the flagship Galaxy S10. Though the chin remains same as almost all the notched phones out there i.e. considerably big bezel then the top bezel. No headphone jack!. The phone is priced at €650 which converts to approx. Rs. 50,000 though official Galaxy A80 price in India has not been announced. At that price it would be hard for Samsung to sell it. Though everything is acceptable at that price but not the Processor because no matter how new or innovation is packed into it, it cannot beat the Snapdragon 800 series which is avaliable in OnePlus 6T, Asus Zenfone 5z and more. The Snapdragon 730 is no match against Snapdragon 845 or 855. But Samsungs genuine fans might be interested in this phone who want to experience something new.

The Galaxy A80 is expected to be launched in India in July as various adverts in offline markets are poping up recently. The phone is expected to come at a price of around Rs.35,000 which is not ideal for that price considering the specs but it offers something new to the market so people might be interested in it. Galaxy A80 price in India will play a crucial role as it will compete with the likes of Asus 6z and OnePlus 7 which have a much improved processor.
