Mobile World Congress (MWC) is an International event held in Barcelona, Spain. Tons and tons of brands and businesses come to showcase their products, ideas and innovations. Many people from around the world gather around to witness the bleeding edge technologies and concepts that the brands showcase and offer them. It is also considered to be one of the largest phone event in the world. Every year 2000+ brands have something or the other to offer. This event is a heaven for a tech enthusiastics and geeks.
MWC 2019 witnessed some weird but amazing devices and they are:-
1. Huawei Mate X
Foldable phones once an imagination and concept are now legitimately becoming true. Remember the videos of foldable tablets and phones a few years back? Those were renders and concepts but now a reality. The Huawei Mate X is one of them. This device took the MWC by storm being it so attractive. This device is a phone cum tablet which means when it’s in its folded phone (6.6″ AMOLED) its a phone and when you unfold it like a book it becomes a tablet of 8 inch. Inspite of this design it features a full flegded 3 camera unit for photography and selfies and is also the world’s first 5G supported foldable phone. Means it lacks no where behind in terms of greatest technology present. The downside of this is that the display is of plastic and would be scratched easily as plastic is plastic and it will scratch when some pressure is applied. Glass cannot be folded so the obvious choice was to go for plastic. But underneath that plastic display is a gorgeous AMOLED panel. This all comes at a massive price of $2600 with 8GB RAM & 512GB ROM and clearly its for the classes and not for the masses. Huawei also estimated that max to max 2,00,000 units would only be sold in 2019 as its production is limited. Technical specifications here

2. Energizer Power Max P18K Pop
This phone is the tank of tanks of the phones in terms of battery capacities. As the name suggests, it has a humongous 18,000mAh battery which makes it more like a power bank then a smartphone. This phone might actually be the attraction of MWC because of the massise battery. It literally looks like a brick and holding this phone is big task because of its weight and thickness. Another thing the name of the phone suggests is the pop up camera. Infact it as a dual pop up camera of 16MP + 2MP depth sensor. Now talking about the camera it has 3 Cameras on the back (12MP PDAF, 5MP and 2MP depth sensor). So, this Tank of the tanks has a total of 5 Cameras which is pretty great but the real-life performance matters the most. Powered by Mediatek Helio P70. With this phone you’ll surely not run out of battery even in extreme to extreme conditions. My guess is that this phone can last 24hrs full on non-stop usage.
3. nubia Alpha
nubia Alpha is a smartphone on wrist. Not just a smartphone, but it has a 4″ flexible OLED display meaning the screen partially wraps around the wrist. This surely sounds ridiculous! being a smartphone cum smartwatch it also supports eSIM means actual calls can be made from the watch itself. It is powered by the Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset with 1GB of RAM and 8GB storage and a fairly small 500mAh battery. It has a custom OS and supports air gestures and motion gestures. There’s also a 5MP camera included to incase you forget your smartphone at home. A very rare device to be seen in the MWC 2019.
4. Nokia 9 PureView
This is a phone and is the flagship from Nokia. The main highlight of the phone is that it has 5 Camera of 12MP each on the back! making it world’s first 5 camera smartphone on the rear. It consists of 2 RGB sensors and 3 Monochrome sensors(Black & white) which combined results it excellent photo quality with great depth in the images and great dynamic range. The 3 Monochrome sensors help in 2.9 times more light into the sensor which results in great low light pictures. Nokia 9 PureView doesnt have any wide angle or depth camera though. This phone is just perfect for RAW quality and simple photos. It runs the last year’s Snapdragon 845 which is by no means slow or weak but Snapdragon 855 is the new buzzword of the year. Nokia has finally implemented the in-display fingerprint scanner on its phone along with AI face unlock. It runs on a 3320mAh battery with Android One and Android 9 Pie out of the box. This phone is not trying to compete with the flagships but just show how innovative nokia can be and this tech can be implemented on next generation of phones.
